Beer On Ice? Yes or No?

Beer With Ice

As this Flagstaff summer gets hotter, our cravings grow for a delicious, chilled beer at our favorite breweries in Flagstaff. But would you go as far as drinking your beer with ice? As odd as it may seem, the argument (and practice) isn’t an odd one.

Why Yes

Beer is served on ice in bars across Southeast Asia, including Thailand and Laos. The reason? Seasons there tend to be hot, hotter, and hottest. Refrigerators can’t always keep up with the heat, so a few ice cubes go a long way in chilling a brew.

Ice in beer also makes brew lighter in taste, which some beer drinkers prefer. Some even argue that you can drink more beer when it’s watered down by ice.

Why No

Most beer is best served chilled at the right temperature from the tap or cooler. Chilling beer with ice can alter the brew’s balance for the worse. In other words, you lose the beer’s flavor the brewmasters intended.

Ice also takes up space in a pint glass, so less beer is poured into your glass.
